Syril Pettit


Syril is the Executive Director of the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI), where she provides scientific, strategic, and organizational leadership in service of HESI’s mission of producing science for a safer, more sustainable world. During her 20 year tenure, she initiated novel programs in areas including cancer patient quality of life, biomedical innovation, and cardiovascular safety and has successfully led the organization to significant membership growth and funding diversification. Syril publishes and speaks frequently around the world on topics relating to global science partnerships, public health, and environmental risk assessment. She holds a Doctorate in Public Health Leadership from University of North Carolina Gillings School of Public Health and a Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University.
