Schoenbrun $300,000 Matching Challenge for STEM Program

We are thrilled to announce that REACH for Uganda Board member Benjamin Schoenbrun and his wife Inga Schoenbrun have made a matching grant of $300,000 to build the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) building for the Hawthorne-Scribner High School (HSHS). The Schoenbrun family will match donations to construction of the STEM building dollar-for-dollar up to $300,000.

We are all aware of the importance of STEM education in order to prepare students for success in the working world of the 21st Century. This fact is even more critical in a developing country trying to build a vibrant, sustainable economy. That is why the new Hawthorne-Scribner High School plans to offer a high quality science program to be located in a state-of-the-art science building that will open in 2025.

The plan is for five laboratories, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture Science, and Information Technology, in a science building in the center of the campus.  HSHS will highlight agricultural science and information technology in its academic offerings to improve sustainable agriculture in Uganda’s breadbasket and recognize that proficiency in information technology is essential to success in all academic and vocational disciplines.
