Provide Clean Drinking Water for our Schools and Surrounding Communities
In Eastern Uganda, clean water is scarce, leading to hours spent by students and community members gathering polluted water, which causes serious gastrointestinal diseases. To address this, our clean water initiative aims to improve water access and sanitation at REACH schools and clinics. The plan includes installing a water system that uses rainwater harvested from school buildings as well as connecting the schools to the Eastern Umbrella gravity water system. Both sources will undergo ultraviolet treatment and reverse osmosis filtration to ensure safety. This will not only improve health and reduce reliance on firewood but also give students more time to focus on their education.
Our board member, Benjamin Schoenbrun, has generously provided $140,000 in matching funds to support the installation of crucial infrastructure, such as a 60,000-liter storage tank, with the goal of providing excess clean water for local communities.
