Schoenbrun $200,000 Matching Challenge for STEM Program
We are thrilled to announce that Board member Ben Schoenbrun and his wife Inga Schoenbrun have made a matching grant of $200,000 to the school’s STEM Program. Ben and Inga will match donations to the STEM Program and construction of the science block dollar-for-dollar up to $200,000.
We are all aware of the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education in order to prepare students for success in the working world of the 21st Century. This fact is even more critical in a developing country trying to build a vibrant, sustainable economy. That is why the new Arlington Secondary and Vocational School (ASVS) plans to offer a high quality science program to be located in a state of the art science building in the next phase of construction.
The plan is for five laboratories, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture Science and Information Technology, to occupy the first two floors of the science building which will be located in the center of the campus. ASVS will highlight agricultural science and information technology in its academic offerings as a reflection of its location in Uganda’s’ breadbasket’ and a recognition that proficiency in information technology is essential to academic and vocational success in all disciplines.
